The Pursuit of “Me Time”—The Benefits of Getting a Massage

October 28, 2009 in Body,Life

If you read my blog post from last week, How do you define “Me Time”?, I’ve been talking about carving out time for ourselves…I call it “Me Time.” If you didn’t see it, check it out.

How do you relax? One of my favorite ways of relaxing is getting a massage. Here are the benefits of getting a massage. Let’s see if any of these reasons will motivate you to go and schedule a massage.

Massage therapy:

  • Decreases stress (do we need more reasons?)
  • Reduces anxiety and tension leading to less headaches
  • Can treat certain forms of depression
  • Reduces muscle stiffness, aches and pains
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Improves your posture
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Creates body awareness
  • Promotes tissue regeneration (i.e. reduces stretch marks)
  • Improves and encourages blood circulation
  • Boosts energy
  • Increases air flow and breathing (more oxygen going in)
  • Relieves discomforts of pregnancy, arthritis, tendonitis and more

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to call and schedule an appointment for a massage right now…gotta go!

Love the blog site! And I agree! I joined Massage Envy where you prepay for your massages on a monthly basis. It forces me to schedule a massage at least once per month. The massages I receive at Massage Envy compare to massages that I’ve received at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek/Vail, Colorado, Boca Raton Resort & other 5 star spas! As a wife, mother of 3 active children, writer and a prudent frugalatarian, if I’ve pre-paid for something, I’m going to take advantage of it. Some months I will get a massage every two weeks because the first one felt so good. On the days that I go in for my “relaxation” massage, the rest of my day just flows a whole lot smoother! It’s an inexpensive indulgence, mothers, check it out!

JC- I wish there was a Massage Envy in my neck of the woods! Hmmm, sounds like a potential business opportunity….
