Week #3 of December is De-Clutter Month

Week #3 of De-Clutter Month
Well, I must admit, my de-cluttering session was limited this week.  It was Nutcracker (the ballet) weekend in our house.  Daughter #2 is the dancer.  I wonder how many times I will see the Nutcracker performed, or for that matter how many times I’ve seen it already!  Daughter # 1 and #3 both had holiday parties, birthday parties and sleepovers.  Steve and I even had a holiday dessert party to attend.  I also managed to fit in a mother-daughter cookie decorating party.  Mostly, I ran the Thomas Shuttle Service for the weekend.

Nevertheless, thanks to the power of focus, I did manage to de-clutter a couple of drawers.  Thank goodness, the areas that I de-cluttered last week are all still clutter free.  And I must say, having a few clutter free zones is helping me stay organized and on task with all I have to get done this month.

Let’s begin this week with getting in touch with what Clutter is.  Clutter is stuff that makes your house look like a mess and consists of items that you do not need and may have accumulated over the weeks, months or years. Now that the definition of clutter is clear in your head…go grab your de-cluttering supplies (garbage bags and index cards).

I know you are busy, so I’ll keep it short.  Here are a few De-clutter tips to support you in winning the De-Clutter Challenge.  We only have 1 more week of the De-Clutter Challenge to go.  We can do it!
Week #3 De-Clutter Tips

  • Remember, “A place for everything and everything in it’s place”.
  • Do you have company coming in for the holidays?  If you do, you might need to focus your attention on those entertaining areas of your house i.e., Guest bedrooms and bathrooms, family room, living, dining and kitchen areas.  Oh, that’s practically the whole house!
  • Scan your index cards, identify those that are creating more problems for you and make those your priority.
  • Sort and organize all visible clutter first. Seeing some empty space where there was clutter first will give you a sense of gratification and keep you motivated.  This is what keeps me going!!
  • After finishing your weekly de-clutter session, reward yourself with something good.  This is such a busy month…maybe you should reward yourself with a nap!
